How do you 'Strategic Plan' a City?
Wednesday 21 November 2012
Planning a City is an awfully big task and it's clear that around the world, and in Australia, some cities seem to have planned better than others. Whether it's live-ability, street-scapes, job creation, traffic chaos, shanty towns or whatever it happens to be, one of the first steps is to look at the City you want to plan for and observe and notice, what it tells you, by the way it operates and the 'feel' it emits. I've just been to Perth and
have noted some observations of Perth in comparison to other cities I've been to recently. You can read my over view of Cities of the Future - Perth at this link.
Like all planning issues however, here at The Australian Strategic Planning Institute, we'd want to know what your Vision of the future is. Without a clear and well articulated Vision, you'll likely end up with a mish-mash of building styles, poor infrastructure planning and investment decisions that ultimately lack cohesion - there's many an example of cities that would say 'If only we could start over...'.
But few can. So start with the well defined and ideally collectively created Vision of the Future and launch from there
